The Distance Learning Aromatherapy Diploma Course consists of four modules designed for students like you, who prefer to study at home.

Your learning is based around the course notes supplied, background reading of aromatherapy texts which you receive with the course.

An extensive kit of essential oils and carriers is also included with each module, building into a full practitioner set by completion of your studies.

You will complete each module and the required assessments successfully before proceeding to the next module under the guidance of a personal tutor, enabling you to produce a high standard of work. The course is ultimately assessed by an exam which can be taken either one our academy locations or online via video call (see our Online Examination Policy for details on remote exam qualification and details)

You are advised to take between 12 and 36 months to complete all modules, although you are not penalised for taking longer. While studying, you may apply for insurance as a student practitioner.

We offer personal tutor support, via email and telephone (01455251020) so that you are able to receive help and encouragement at any time during the learning process.

The Distance Learning Aromatherapy Course is very flexible and it is possible for you to combine distance learning with in-house modules to comply with some accrediting body’s requirements or simply to vary the learning environments.

The Distance Learning Aromatherapy Course is assessed by:

  • 2 ½ hour written examination (either in house or via video call – see our Online Examination Policy for details on remote exam qualification and details)
  • Continuous assessment by essay and assignment
  • 10 prescriptions on clients

To gain your diploma and be issued with your certificate you will need to hold qualifications in both Anatomy and Physiology and Business Studies as core learning. If you already hold such a qualification to the same level, we would just need evidence of this. Alternatively, we have options for these elements to be completed with us.

  • Choosing appropriate oils, creams and lotions used for specific ailments and conditions
  • Introduction to plant families and therapeutic and physical properties of    essential oils and their pharmacological effects on the body
  • Properties and effects of 15 essential oils
  • Introduction to the chemistry of essential oils and their component parts
  • Introduction to hydrolats

Module 3

Module 3 studies: A Critical Investigation: The Chemistry and Taxonomy of Essential Oils

  • Information on plant families and essential oils is expanded
  • Organic chemistry and essential oil components awareness
  • Toxicity, essential oil purity and safety
  • 15 carrier oils are discussed in depth
  • Allergy and substance sensitivity.
  • The properties and effects of 15 essential oils are studied.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before Module 4

Module 4

Module 4 studies: The Bigger Picture: The Healthy Life and Aromatherapy 

  • Differences between plant medicine and orthodox medicine
  • The comprehensive study of common ailments, including those arising from care for the elderly, pregnancy and paediatrics, depression, special needs and massage with cancer patients
  • Olfaction and its psychosomatic effects
  • The properties and effects of 12 essential oils are studied.

Following completion of Module 4, students are required to attend an examination day at a cost of £50+VAT. The exam will assess theory elements and if successful providing all other elements are completed the student will be awarded with their diploma.

Description

Our distance learning course can be completed as a theory only. The course comprises of four aromatherapy modules, followed by an examination.

 

Modules 1-4 cost £420 each inc. VAT, free UK shipping (charges will be added for shipping abroad), the Penny Price course folder and notes, relevant textbook and all of the essential oils, carrier oils and accessories needed to complete your studies. You will be assigned a personal tutor to aid your learning, mark your course work and for you to contact should you need any help or advice.

 

To gain your diploma you will also need to be qualified in anatomy and physiology and hold a relevant experience or a qualification in Business Studies. If you already have a qualification in this subject then we may be able to APL you for this but would require proof of completion. If you have not already got this qualification then we are able to offer this as a distance learning course, either in a paper format or as an online course. Please let me know if you would like further details.

 

Our distance learning theory only course is accredited with the IFPA (International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists), and you may gain insurance through Balens. You would be qualified to give a client consultation and select the appropriate oils and method to suit your client. As this course does not include massage you would not be able to administer through this way, unless you have prior training which can be added to your insurance. We do offer a five-day massage course which can be added at any time to your qualification allowing you to have the full diploma.
