Frankincense & How It’s Obtained
Frankincense trees grow mainly in the Middle East and the resin is harvested and burned for religious ceremonies. The idea is that all our prayers are wrapped up in a sweet smell for the gods and therefore they’re more likely to be answered. The resin is collected from small cuts made in the bark of the tree and then steam distilled to produce this beautiful, deep frankincense essential oil.
Frankincense Properties, Uses & Benefits
Traditionally, frankincense essential oil helped with clearing the lungs. It’s also an antidepressant, so it will uplift you. It helps to slow the spread of infection, so it’s great to burn if somebody’s ill in the house. It’s anti-inflammatory, it can help sensitive skin, and it is immunostimulating. It does give your immune system quite a boost.
However, frankincense essential oil is most often used for grief and depression, and it has amazing effects on bereaved people, whether through loss of a loved one, loss of a marriage, loss of children when they leave home to go to uni or to marry, or loss of a career. Frankincense really can help to build up your self-worth because it’s grounding and its aroma can help us overcome that deep sense of loss we can feel when life events happen.
If you inhale frankincense, the aromatic molecules can uplift your spirit almost immediately and that helps you to feel more confident and stronger in that moment. So frankincense can impart self-worth through the grounding and uplifting aroma, and studies show that frankincense can calm the soul and bring peace.
