Why do I need Anatomy & Physiology?

Anatomy & Physiology provides the essential knowledge of how the human body works, helping you practise aromatherapy safely and professionally. Our IFPA-approved Level 3 A&P course, delivered through Essential Training Solutions (ETS), meets the anatomy and physiology requirement for the Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy.

What does A&P Help you Understand?

Are these included in the course fee?

Assessment & Examination

Our exams can be taken in person or live via Zoom and include both theory and practical assessments across the Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy and Aromatherapeutic Body Massage (ABM).

All exams run for 2.5 hours (with extended time and accessibility options available), and theory papers use multiple‑choice, short‑answer and essay formats, while the ABM practical covers the full massage routine and client consultation with all products and a model provided.

What is your cancellation policy?

In-House Courses

We understand that circumstances can change and aim to be as flexible as possible.

Cancellations with more than 14 days’ notice will receive a full refund less a £10 administration fee, or the funds can be transferred to another course.
Cancellations made within 14 days of the course start date will forfeit 50% of the course fee.
Students who do not attend their course will forfeit the full course fee.

If a course does not reach the minimum number of students required to run, you will be offered one of the following options:

Transfer to the next available course of the same title at no additional cost.
Transfer to a Distance Learning version of the course (where available).
Upgrade to a private one-to-one training session (additional charges apply).

Distance Learning

Once a Distance Learning course has been purchased and your application has been accepted, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 calendar days of receiving your course materials.

If you choose to cancel within this period, you will be responsible for the cost of returning the course materials to us. Once we have received the returned parcel, we will process your refund for the course.
Please ensure that all course materials are returned in good condition. If any items are damaged, marked, used, or otherwise returned in a condition that significantly reduces their value, we will deduct a reasonable amount from your refund to reflect the loss in value.

E-Learning Courses

Once a course has been applied for, paid for in full, and learning materials or access details have been issued, cancellations cannot be accepted. If you experience any difficulties or are dissatisfied with any aspect of your course, please contact the Academy directly and we will do our best to assist you. Your statutory rights are not affected.

About the Diploma

What Does Clinical Aromatherapy Mean?

Clinical Aromatherapy is the informed and professional application of essential oils based on client assessment, safety considerations, and individual needs. The qualification does not train practitioners to diagnose medical conditions.

How long does it take to complete the Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy?

Most students complete the Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy within 12 to 36 months, depending on their chosen learning method, study pace, and personal commitments.

How is the Diploma structured?

The Diploma combines theory, practical training, home study, coursework, case studies, and examinations. Each module builds on the previous one, allowing students to progressively develop both their knowledge and practical skills.

Do I have to complete the modules in order?

Yes. Each module and its associated assessments must be completed successfully before progressing to the next stage of the programme.

Will I have tutor support during the course?

Yes. Every student has access to a personal tutor who can provide guidance, answer questions, and support learning throughout the course.

Do you offer one-to-one training?

Yes. Private one-to-one training may be available by arrangement and is subject to additional fees.

Can I start the course at any time?

Distance Learning and E-Learning students can begin immediately. In-House students attend according to the published course schedule.

Is the course theory-based or with Massage ?

The Diploma offers a flexible learning pathway to suit your career goals. The content and practical elements vary depending on the qualification pathway you choose.

Theory Diploma (Modules 1–4): Focuses on the theory, science, safe application, and professional practice of aromatherapy. This pathway does not include massage training and is ideal for students who wish to develop specialist aromatherapy knowledge or integrate aromatherapy into an existing therapy or healthcare background.
Theory & Aromatherapeutic Body Massage Diploma (Modules 1–5): Combines comprehensive aromatherapy theory with practical training in Aromatherapeutic Body Massage, enabling graduates to offer professional aromatherapy massage treatments.
Full Associate Diploma (Modules 1–6): Includes all theory modules, Aromatherapeutic Body Massage, Aromaflexology, and advanced practical training, providing the broadest range of aromatherapy and complementary therapy skills.

Whichever pathway you choose, you will develop the knowledge, confidence, and professional understanding needed to apply aromatherapy safely and effectively within your chosen area of practice.

What homework is involved?

Students complete assignments, research tasks, case studies, practical assessments, and independent study throughout the programme.

How much study time should I expect each week?

Study time varies depending on your chosen pathway and personal experience. Students should expect to commit regular time to reading, assignments, research, and case study work between modules.

Are there assignment deadlines?

Yes. Assignments should normally be submitted at least two weeks before your next module, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed in advance.

Can I resubmit coursework?

Yes. Students may be allowed to resubmit work if additional development is required or if they wish to improve their result.

Can I include essential oils that are not taught in the course?

Yes, however, during Modules 1 and 2, students should use oils taught within the programme. From Module 3 onwards, additional oils may be used provided they have been properly researched and their use is clearly justified.

Do I have to use Penny Price Aromatherapy oils?

No. You may use oils from any reputable supplier that provides oils of suitable therapeutic quality.

Do I have to purchase a course kit?

No. Course kits are completely optional. Students are free to use their own products and may purchase Penny Price products with student discounts if they wish.

What happens when I complete the Diploma?

Once all modules, coursework, case studies, examinations, and prerequisite subjects have been successfully completed, you will be awarded your Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy and be eligible to apply for professional membership and practitioner insurance.

Module 5

Aromatherapeutic Body Massage

Aromatherapeutic Body Massage teaches the Penny Price Aromatherapy full aromatherapy body massage routine, including the face and abdomen. The course is ideal for beginners wishing to start a career as a massage therapist.

Module 6

Module 6 consists of 5 days of learning and exploring different massage techniques and client care.

Day 1 & 2 – Aromaflexology

An Aromaflexology treatment combines Aromatherapy and Reflexology. The combination of these two therapies is a very powerful method for treating your client. Unique to the Price family, this has proven to be a unique tool in not only selecting the right essential oils for your client but also offering a full treatment with remarkable outcomes. Day 3 – Massage Refresher

A Chance to put your Full body massage and Aromaflexology analysis techniques together to enable a full treatment from head to toe. Case studies are required on completion of this course and it also allows you to practice the full treatment that will be assessed during your exam. Day 4 – Neck and shoulder massage

Various massage movements will be taught in sequence, which can be used to treat your client and conditions they may have, such as Headaches, tension and stress. This is an invaluable tool for mobile therapists or those wishing to offer massage to office worker,s especially who carry their tension in their shoulders. Day 5 – Alternative ways of treating with aromatherapy

A day looking at our essential oils, carrier oils and hydrolats and how we can use them practically in different ways, such as creating compresses, nasal inhalers, rollerballs and more to offer our clients a home care treatment plan as well as clinical use. There will also be an opportunity to make a blend for yourself, or your classmate, using the selection skills you have learnt throughout the course as well as the additional information you will learn on the day.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before the final exam

Open to other therapists to join CPD. Theory-only students are welcome to join us on days 1-2 and 5 of module 6 only if they do not wish to learn massage but would like to learn other ways of treating their clients or have done their massage elsewhere. This will give them CPD. Qualified Massage Therapists are welcome to join us on day 4.

Graduate Story: Building Confidence Through Clinical Aromatherapy

When one of our recent Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy graduates received their final results, their first reaction was surprise:

Like many students, they began the diploma with a passion for aromatherapy but recognised gaps in their understanding of some of the core scientific principles.
