Description
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a complete massage treatment, which involves working on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. It is a traditional Indian treatment, which has now become popular in the West.
It can be a complete treatment with oils lasting for about 20 minutes or it can be very effectively used within the workplace environment as a 5 – 10 minute quick stress-busting treatment, which is completely dry and without the need for undressing.
The simplicity of the treatment is that it can be done anywhere! No clothing needs to be removed and only a chair is required. The treatment works on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face, using a variety of massage movements to:
- Relieve accumulated tension in the muscles.
- Restore joint movement.
- Relieve headaches.
- Relieve eyestrain.
- Relieve tension in the face – particularly around the jaw.
- Aid sinus congestion.
- Aid the condition and health of the hair, particularly when combined with the use of natural, organic oils.
This popular post-massage diploma course teaches a seated full head, neck and shoulder routine and discusses Ayurvedic principles of healing. The student will accomplish a comprehensive 45-minute treatment using over 40 massage movements. Contra-indications, and anatomy review of the head and shoulders and the effects on the lymphatic system are also reviewed.
There are three case studies of 3 treatments each to be completed before an in-house qualification accredited by the FHT certificate of competence is issued.

What to Wear?
Students at the Academy are encouraged to be relaxed and at ease. For this reason, it is recommended loose comfortable trousers and tops that enable easy movement and do not restrict the body. All loose tops and shirts should be tucked in to prevent ‘trailing’ on the client for practical courses. Shoes should be flat-heeled and comfortable.
