Become a Qualified Aromatherapist and/or Massage Therapist with our Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy. Accredited by the IFPA and the FHT, full completion of this course allows membership to a host of industry federations. This course is mapped to Level 5.

Aromatherapy Theory Only Diploma (Modules 1-4)

The Aromatherapy Theory Only Diploma does not include the practical massage element of the course and students will be awarded their diploma and be a qualified Aromatherapist. You only need to complete modules 1-4 for the Theory Only Diploma. Theory-only students are welcome to join us on days 1-2, 4 and 5 of module 6 if they do not wish to learn massage but would like to learn other ways of treating their clients or have done their massage elsewhere.

This will give you CPD (Continued Professional Development) to enhance your learning and the ways in which you can administer aromatherapy without a full body massage.

Module 1: A Primary Understanding: The Fundamentals and History of Aromatherapy – 3 Days

  • The properties and effects of 12 of the most popular essential oils
  • Methods of extraction, storage and blending and the use of carrier oils
  • History of aromatherapy and massage together with the philosophy of holistic healing
  • Introduction to botany, plant cell function & photosynthesis

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before Module 2

Module 2

Module 2: A Deeper Exploration: The Materials and Benefits of Aromatherapy – 3 Days

  • Choosing appropriate oils, creams and lotions used in the aromatherapy treatment for specific ailments and conditions
  • Extended massage principles are demonstrated and practiced thoroughly
  • Introduction to plant families and therapeutic and physical properties of    essential oils and their pharmacological effects on the body
  • Properties and effects of 15 essential oils
  • Introduction to the chemistry of essential oils and their component parts
  • Introduction to Hydrolats

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before Module 3

Module 3

Module 3: A Critical Investigation: The Chemistry and Taxonomy of Essential Oils – 3 days

  • Information on plant families and essential oils is expanded
  • Organic chemistry and essential oil components awareness
  • Toxicity, essential oil purity and safety
  • 15 carrier oils are discussed in depth
  • Allergy and substance sensitivity.
  • The properties and effects of 15 essential oils are studied.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before Module 4

Module 4

Module 4: The Bigger Picture: The Healthy Life and Aromatherapy – 4 days

  • Differences between plant medicine and orthodox medicine
  • The comprehensive study of common ailments, including those arising from care for the elderly, pregnancy and pediatrics, depression, special needs and massage with cancer patients
  • Olfaction and its psychosomatic effects
  • The properties and effects of 12 essential oils are studied.

Theory-only students are welcome to join us on days 1-2 and 5 of module 6 only if they do not wish to learn massage but would like to learn other ways of treating their clients or have done their massage elsewhere. This will give them CPD.

Qualified Massage Therapists are welcome to join us on day 4. 

Full Clinical Aromatherapy Diploma to include Theory & Massage (Modules 1-6)

Our Theory and Massage Aromatherapy Diploma covers the practical massage element and will cover modules 1-4 and modules 5-6 which are the practical massage elements of the diploma. These two extra modules will award you your massage diploma. You will be a qualified Aromatherapist and Massage therapist at the end of the course.

Module 5

Aromatherapeutic Body Massage – 5 Days

January 20th-24th 2025 | September 8th-12th 2025 | 7th-11th July 2025

Aromatherapeutic Body Massage teaches the Penny Price Aromatherapy full aromatherapy body massage routine, including the face and abdomen. The course is ideal for beginners wishing to start a career as a massage therapist.

  • Definitions of massage, and introduction to massage
  • The principles and benefits of massage
  • Different types of massage
  • A comprehensive appreciation of body analysis for the assessment of clients
  • Contra-indications and precautions
  • Preparing for massage
  • Care of the client and therapist
  • Aftercare advice

This can also be joined by students wishing to complete the massage diploma only and not wishing to be qualified aromatherapists. (Homework may vary depending on ABM / DCA student)

Module 6

Module 6 consists of 5 days of learning and exploring different massage techniques and client care. 

Day 1 & 2 – Aromaflexology | October 6th-7th, 2025

An Aromaflexology treatment combines Aromatherapy and Reflexology. The combination of these two therapies is a very powerful method for treating your client. Unique to the Price family, this has proven to be a unique tool in not only selecting the right essential oils for your client but also offering a full treatment with remarkable outcomes. Day 3 – Massage Refresher | October 8th, 2025

A Chance to put your Full body massage and Aromaflexology analysis techniques together to enable a full treatment from head to toe. Case studies are required on completion of this course and it also allows you to practice the full treatment that will be assessed during your exam. Day 4 – Neck and shoulder massage | October 9th, 2025

Various massage movements will be taught in sequence, which can be used to treat your client and conditions they may have, such as Headaches, tension and stress. This is an invaluable tool for mobile therapists or those wishing to offer massage to office worker,s especially who carry their tension in their shoulders. Day 5 – Alternative ways of treating with aromatherapy | October 10th

A day looking at our essential oils, carrier oils and hydrolats and how we can use them practically in different ways, such as creating compresses, nasal inhalers, rollerballs and more to offer our clients a home care treatment plan as well as clinical use. There will also be an opportunity to make a blend for yourself, or your classmate, using the selection skills you have learnt throughout the course as well as the additional information you will learn on the day.

All case studies and homework assignments should be completed before Final Exam

Open to other therapists to join CPD

Theory-only students are welcome to join us on days 1-2 and 5 of module 6 only if they do not wish to learn massage but would like to learn other ways of treating their clients or have done their massage elsewhere. This will give them CPD.

Qualified Massage Therapists are welcome to join us on day 4.

Description

Exam & Diploma 

The examination day fee is £100+VAT.

Theory Only Diploma

To gain your Theory Only Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy, you will complete the full Aromatherapy Exam and a theory exam.

  • Students wishing to complete the Theory Only Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy do not need to attend Module 5 (ABM) Aromatherapeutic Body Massage or Module 6, however, Theory only students are welcome to join us on Module 6 on days 1-2, 4 and 5 if you do not wish to learn massage but would like to learn other ways of treating their clients or have done their massage else-were. This will give you CPD.
  • You will also need to complete coursework and case studies throughout your modules.

Theory & Massage Diploma 

To gain your Theory and Massage Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy, you will complete all modules 1-6 and you will complete the full Aromatherapy Exa,m which consists of the Full Body Massage and includes Aromaflexolgy and a theory exam.

  • The aromatherapeutic Body Massage (ABM) exam does not need to be completed to gain your diploma. You will complete the Full aromatherapy exam, which consists of a full body massage to include Aromaflexology and a theory exam.
  • You will also need to complete coursework and case studies throughout your modules.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of your Exam, you will receive your Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy:

  • Theory Only Diploma
  • Theory and Massage Diploma

Booking a Course – In-House Courses

Please ensure that you read and understand the following information before booking an academy course:

Bookings for courses can be made online. You will be asked for full payment of the course fee or given the option to pay for your course in instalments by choosing to ‘pay in three’ with PayPal or in four instalments via Clear Pay. You can also book via telephone on 01455 251020. Payment will need to be paid in full for your course should you choose this option.

All bookings will be acknowledged with a letter of acceptance, sent via email unless otherwise requested, and there will be an official enrollment form to fill out and return to the academy together with copies of all pre-requisite qualifications.

Cancellation Policy – In-House Courses

  • Cancellations giving over 14 days’ notice will receive a full refund (or have funds transferred to another course booking) less a cancellation fee of £10.
  • Cancellations made within 14 days of the course start date will forfeit 50% of the full course fee paid. Non-attendees on the day of the course will forfeit the full course fee.

If a course fails to reach minimum booking numbers by 14 days of the start date, it will be considered not viable, and the student will be given one of the following options:

  • To be given a free transfer to the next available course of the same title or value.
  • To take their chosen course via distance learning (if it is available as such).
  • To have a bespoke one-to-one training session (there will be an additional charge for this option)

What to Wear?

Students at the Academy are encouraged to be relaxed and at ease. For this reason, it is recommended loose comfortable trousers and tops that enable easy movement and do not restrict the body.  All loose tops and shirts should be tucked in to prevent ‘trailing’ on the client for practical courses. Shoes should be flat-heeled and comfortable.
