Although carrier oils cannot penetrate the skin like essential oils, many contain vitamins and other smaller components that can be absorbed by the top layers of the skin to enhance appearance and skin health. Carriers enable essential oils to be distributed evenly over the skin, although the presence of the carrier does slow down the absorption of the essential oils to an extent.
However, during the length of the massage treatment, the majority of the essential oils will have reached the bloodstream, and the carrier oil will give a moisturised, silky feel to the body. Due to their very nature, they are great internally and can be incorporated into everyday life.
