Chakras are the Sanskrit name for energy circles in the body. In Hinduism and some related Asian cultures, a chakra (Sanskrit cakra चक्र “wheel”) is thought to be a nexus of metaphysical and/or biophysical energy residing in the human body. The New Age movement, and to some degree the distinctly different New Thought movement, have also adopted and elaborated on this belief.
The concept of meridians (Chinese: jing-luo 经络) arises from the techniques and doctrines of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including acupressure. According to these practices, the body’s vital energy, “qi”, circulates through the body along specific interconnected channels called meridians. There is no physically verifiable anatomical or histological basis for their existence. The Meridians will be explained more fully and practically explored.
